The reserves third home game of the season came against Grampound Reserves, they have proved a difficult opposition to shake off in recent seasons and this game was no different.
The opening exchanges were sloppy from both sides, with many misplaced passes but both defences stood firm until Glenn Charnock bundled in after the Grampound keeper fumbled. Petherwin grew into the game slightly after the goal but gave away a cheap free-kick on the edge of the area. The initial effort was blocked but fell kindly for an attacking player who put the ball back across goal and it was prodded home, Half-Time 1-1.
Both sides played better in the second half, but the game was still bogged down in the middle of the pitch for the most part. That was until Ian Penhale picked up the loose ball on the left-hand side and let fly with a tremendous effort with the outside of his left foot which beat the goalkeeper, hit the underside of the crossbar and into the back of the net. The game continued in the same way, chances were few and far between, both keepers not really worked. North did have a chance to put the game to bed when Liam Denne outstripped the defence for pace but his shot hit the side netting. When Grampound went on one of the very last attacks of the game however, the attacker got into a tangle with Paul Chidley & Ali Kennedy and a penalty was awarded. The Grampound skipper cooly slotted the resulting spot-kick home and that was how it finished. Full-time 2-2 with North still top of Duchy Division 3, for the time being.
